Thompson began working for WJTV in June of 2020. She is a 2018 graduate of Jacksonville State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She was born in Brandon, Mississippi. Kayla was a four-year member of both the soccer and track teams at Jacksonville State. She also got “The Eagle Owl Award,” JSU’s highest sports accolade, for her contributions on and off the field, as well as in the community.

She acknowledges Jackson State TV, as well as Jacksonville State, for helping her learn the ropes and develop her own style of storytelling. Kayla also hosted one of the most popular radio shows at Jacksonville State University.
