Jill Abramson (Jill Ellen Abramson) is an American author and journalist, former executive editor of the New York Times and first female executive editor in the paper 160 – year history. She joined the New York Times in 1997, as the Washington bureau chief and managing editor before being named as executive editor. Jill also worked for The Wall Street Journal as an investigative reporter and a deputy bureau chief. In March 2016, Jill was hired as a political columnist for Guardian US. In 2012. Forbes ranked Jill number five on the list of most powerful women and she was also named as one of the most powerful 500 people in the world by Foreign Policy.
