She has worked for the channel since March 2018 and focuses on political radicalization, extremism, and disinformation on the Internet. Brandy has also worked for The Daily Beast since May 2013 as a Reporter and Senior Researcher for Greater New York City.
She graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn with a Bachelor’s degree in 2008 and a Master’s degree in Library Information Science. Brandy worked as a librarian at the New York Board of Education before going into journalism. She was employed there from 2003 till 2007. When asked why she chose to cover these movements as a journalist, Brandy stated, “Suddenly, the foolish stuff on the internet, the dangerous stuff on the internet, became just so mainstream and relevant.” That should not be the case.” She was chastised on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Tucker Carlson Tonight in October 2020. Brandy was accused of trying to “dig up personal information on nameless Trump fans online basically, so she can ruin their life” by Darren Beattie Carlson’s guest, a former speechwriter for Donald Trump with ties to white nationalism.
NBC News, on the other hand, published a statement condemning “Carlson’s harmful and dishonest targeting of Brandy.” The accusations, according to NBC management, were a “smear” and had resulted in Brandy being harassed. Brandy is “relentlessly well-researched as well as savvy in her comprehension of misinformation and conspiracy theories on the Internet,” according to NBC News.
