Jorge Torres was born in Austin, Texas, to a Puerto Rican father and Mexican mother. Torres grew up in the suburban area of Pflugerville and graduated from Texas A&M University in Texas, where she majored in meteorology and Spanish. While in college, Jorge joined the Texas A&M Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, eventually becoming president of the chapter his senior year. He is also a member of the Texas Aggie Storm Chasers storm chasing team and is also the brother of Omega Delta Phi.
Jorge has been in broadcasting for over a decade, starting his career at KVIA-TV in El Paso, Texas. Torres is also the chief meteorologist for KOB-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also holds the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal and the National Weather Association’s Television Weather Forecaster Seal of Approval.
Torres has 10 years of experience covering all types of weather such as drought, dust storm, winter weather, severe storm and typhoon. The focus will now be on the monsoons, heat and storms hitting Arizona. He was passionate about weather and society since his childhood. When he’s not working, Jorge enjoys visiting local schools and talking to kids about weather, science, and weather.
