After serving as Prime Minister of Vietnam for five years (2016-2021), spearheading a period of economic growth and leading the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nguyen was elected President by the Republic of Vietnam. Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s career
As President, Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the supreme leader of Vietnam after Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and is second in line to the 13th Politburo of the Vietnam Security Government. Nguyen Xuan Phuc is also a full member of the National Assembly, serving as a member of the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Congress.
Nguyễn Phút Trong joined Communist Vietnam on November 12, 1983. He studied business administration at Hanoi National University of Economics from 1973 to 1978, and then studied management at the Vietnam National School of Management.
Served as Guangnan Da Neng Economic Committee from 1978 to 1979. From 1980 to 1993, Nguyen Xuan Phuc began serving in the army and was later appointed chairman of the National People’s Congress in Quang Nam Danang province.
Before becoming prime minister (2011-2016), Nguyen Xuan Phuc held various positions, including provincial president and head of government department. His popularity has plummeted due to mounting allegations of corruption that he and his family are believed to be linked to.
