Aline Abboud Biography

Aline Abboud is a German journalist and television presenter. After studying Arab studies at the University of Leipzig, she worked as an editor and reporter at the German public broadcaster ZDF, focusing on foreign affairs.

Since September 2021 Abboud has been publishing ARD’s daily news publication Tagesthemen. She is the first woman to hold this position in the German Democratic Republic.

In 2016, Aline became the editor of Heute, the news publication of ZDF, one of Germany’s two broadcasters. She also offers heuteXpress on the same channel. She has been writing as a journalist for Auslandsjournal, ZDF’s foreign affairs brand, since 2018. Since 2019 “DIE DA OBEN!” for streaming service Funk. Abboud produced the documentary (Und jetzt Wir) about the youth protest against Arte.

Abboud serves on the board of directors of the Candid Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on the Southern Mediterranean and Western Asia. Abboud joined public broadcaster ARD in 2021, replacing Pınar Atalay in the channel’s daily news broadcast Tagesthemen.
