Gabor Steingart Career
Studied politics and macroeconomics at Philipps University Marburg and Freie Universität Berlin. After finishing school, Gabor attended the Georg von Holzbrinck School for Business Journalists in Düsseldorf. Steingart first worked for the financial newspaper “Corporate Finance” and then for “Wirtschaftswoche”.
He joined Der Spiegel as an economic correspondent in 1990 and became Der Spiegel’s Berlin director in 2001, a position he held until 2007. He later moved to the United States, where he worked as a senior correspondent in Washington, DC.
On April 5, 2010, Steingart became editor-in-chief of Handelsblatt, Germany’s leading financial newspaper. He was fired by publisher Dieter von Holtzbrinck in early 2018.
