Joel Kinnaman Biography
Charles Joel Nordstrom Kinnaman (Swedish: [jl Knaman]; born 25 November 1979) is a Swedish actor. He rose to fame after starring in the 2010 Swedish film Easy Money and Johan Falk’s crime thriller. Kinnaman is known for his roles as Detective Stephen Holder in AMC’s The Killing, Samurai Kovacs in the first season of Replica, and Governor in the American version of House of Cards Will Conway.
He also played the character Rick Flag in Warner Bros. Film adaptation of the DC Comics anti-hero team The Suicide Squad (2016), with Alex Murphy in the 2014 RoboCop remake. He also stars in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel/reboot, due out in 2021. He played NASA astronaut Ed Baldwin in the science fiction series For Everyone, which has been broadcast on Apple TV + since 2019.

Growing up, Kinnaman suffered from pectus excavatum, which caused his chest to appear sunken. He had surgery to correct the deformity before filming “Copy.” Two metal rods are inserted to press the breastbone outward.
In 1990, Kinnaman made his acting debut in the Swedish soap opera “Storstad”. One of the show’s directors asked Kinnaman to try out for the role because his sister had met him. He left the show business after 22 episodes as Felix Lundström.
In 2002, Kinnaman returned to acting. [While attending drama school, Kinnaman appeared in several films, including Hannah Mede H and God Save the King (Swedish: Tjenare kungen). He also contributed to the construction of the Baka Theater in Gothenburg. After graduating from Malmö Theater Academy, he started working at the Gothenburg City Theater in 2007. In the same year, he played Raskolnikov in the stage version of Crime and Punishment, which attracted the attention of Swedish news. Over the next 14 months, Kinnaman appeared in nine Swedish films. He played a police officer in six of Johan Falk’s films, including the 2009 film In Your Blood (Swedish: I skuggan av värmen). He became widely known in the Swedish and international film industry for his role in Easy Money, which was released in January 2010 and also earned him the Guldbagge Award for Excellent Actor.
