Oboli started her career acting in 1996 with her first movie role in Bitter Encounter and further made her talent known in another movie titled “Shame”. She then went on to play the lead female character in three major movies; Not My Will, Destined To Die, and Another Campus Tale.
Oboli played the role of a secretary in the movie ‘Bitter Encounter’ in 1996. Then she played the role of a housemaid in ‘Shame’ next. When asked in an interview, Omoni Oboli revealed that she was so happy to have a role in a movie that she did not care about the types of characters she was given.
It was after these two movies, she went on to play lead roles in ‘Not my Will,’ ‘Destined to Die,’ and ‘Another Campus Tale.’
Oboli later left the movie industry to complete her education during which she got married immediately after school. She left the movie industry for ten years after which she returned.
She revealed that it was challenging for her on her return because she couldn’t get roles, she said “Breaking into Nollywood after a lull of 10 years was my biggest challenge. It was so difficult to get a role. She was fortunate to meet with Emem Isong who auditioned me. She wrote a script, met with Lancelot Oduwa Image.
Then came one movie and then another that was it. Oboli has learned that no problem cannot be solved as long as there is life”.
She has many screenplays to her name including her film, “Wives on Strike.” She co-produced her first movie with her friend Blessing Effiom in July 2007.
The movie was titled ‘The Rivals,” and it won the Best International Drama award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. Their movie was the first to be premiered since the establishment of the New York International Independent Films and Video Festival in 2003.
They are the movie was given three stars out of 4 by the Festival ’s judges. She has also played a lead role in various mainstream movies such as “The Figurine” in 2009, Anchor Baby in 2010, Being Mrs. Elliot and Fifty in 2015. This is after her first produced movie, ‘The Rivals,’ she has written and produced several movies such as Wives on Strike, Fatal Imagination, Being Mrs. Elliott, and The First Lady.
