Martin began his career back as was a sophomore at Jackson State University and got his first job in TV news working at the teleprompter on the weekends at WAPT news. He worked his way up to a news photographer, editor and sports reporter for the weekend shows, before his graduating.
After Jackson, he served as a news and sports reporter/anchor at KSEE in Fresno, California; WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!), working as a weekend anchor at CNN in Atlanta; and anchor/reporter at WKRN in Nashville Tennessee.
Working in Washington he covered a number of stories including reporting on several days in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Miami on the murder of Washington Redskins football player Sean Taylor, and as well being the first reporter on the FOX 5’s award-winning fot the coverage of the serial bank robberies in D.C.
