Chad Kroeger (Chad Robert Turton) a Canadian musician and producer, best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Canadian rock band Nickelback.

He first dated fellow Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne on July 1, 2012 and worked together in March 2012 to write and record music for Lavigne’s fifth album.The duo engaged in August 2012 and married in the south of France on July 1, 2013, Canada Day. In September 2014, the entertainment media started reporting that they were headed for separation after only one year of marriage.

On September 2, 2015, Lavigne announced their separation via her official Instagram account. He then dated Kristen Dewitt for three years before calling it quits. Their messy separation has resulted in lawsuits and angry tweets from Dewitt’s side.

In early 1990s, he was part of a grunge cover band, The Village Idiots. In 1995, Kroeger, Peake, Mike Kroeger, and then drummer Brandon Kroeger formed the band Nickelback. He has recorded and toured with this successful band for more than 20 years.

In 2001, with the help of lawyer Jonathan Simkin,he found the band The Suits XL. Band members included Sam Loubier-Demers and Yohann Gosselin on vocals and guitars, drummer Patrick Paquet, keyboardist Felix-Antoine Berube and singer Oliver Roy de Belleval.

In 2002, he co-founded the Vancouver, British Columbia-based 604 Records. Later, in 2006, The Suits XL released an album through this label. He also produced music for the bands Default, Theory of a Deadman, and Bo Bice.

His touring guitars include a 7-string Gibson Explorer tuned to A# standard and strung with Ernie Ball .080-.014 strings, a Gibson Les Paul Custom that has been modded to only have one volume knob, a Silverburst Les Paul Custom tuned to drop-C, a crystal covered Les Paul used on “Something In Your Mouth,” a few of his signature Blackwater Gibson Les Pauls, and a PRS Hollowbody for “Far Away.”

His rack setup’s signal goes through the Shure wireless receivers into a Radial JX44 and then splits out to the Fender Super 60 for his clean tone and a pair of Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifiers for his overdrive sound. He keeps the same basic signal flow but inserts a Fractal Audio Axe-Fx II and a Line 6 Echo Pro. He also uses a Radial PZ-Pre and an ISP Decimator in the effects loop of the JX44.
