Reid started off as a lawyer working as a counsel for the US Senate Judiciary committee as of 1982-1986. He there after worked as a specialist in litigation and lobbying specialist at the same firm to 1988. In 1987, he served as a general counsel for Senator Joe Biden’s presidential campaign team.
In 1988, he began his journalism career working with ABC News, as a field producer in Washington DC. He serrved the station for a year and terminated his contract in 1989.
In 1994, Reid joined WTTG-TV based in Washington DC as a general assignment reporter and newscaster. He quit the job in 1993 to join WJLA-TV, where he worked as a reporter and news anchor until 1996.
