Dana worked together with the duo during the creation of the Superman television series Smallville. Afterward, she worked for writer-director John August. Later, she was hired by established screenwriter Jessica Bendinger to write a script.
During this time, Jessica was seeking an unpublished writer who would work inexpensively on a screenplay. Fox had not yet written a sample screenplay. Nonetheless, Bendinger was so impressed with her ideas for the story.
Furthermore, Fox was attached to three separate writing projects. She also produced screenplay was What Happens in Vegas. As a result, she was bought by 20th Century Fox in a high six-figure deal for the script’s first draft.

Dana performed rewrites on 27 Dresses and Knight and Day. As a result, she was named one of Variety magazine’s “10 Screenwriters to Watch” of 2007. It is known that she intended to become a film producer originally.
However, Fox realized that she enjoyed writing more when she was assigned a task to write a 30-page screenplay at USC. Therefore, she decided to become a screenwriter instead. She also developed a half hour comedy for FOX based loosely on her older brother.
Dana collaborates with writers Diablo Cody, Lorene Scafaria, and Liz Meriwether in a Fempire writing group. Together, she received the Athena Film Festival Award for Creativity and Sisterhood.
