O’Brien has been covering the ups and downs of Indiana weather for 18 years, eight of those right here at FOX59! O’Brien joined Channel 13’s SkyTrak weather team in January 2001. His responsibilities include forecasting on Channel 13’s weekend evening newscasts as well as WTHR’s cable channel, the SkyTrak Weather Network.
In the year 1996, Jim began his broadcasting career in Fort Wayne, Indiana at WKJG-TV, NBC 33, where he weather anchored the morning and noon weekday newscasts. In the year 1997, he moved back to his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and began work as a Meteorologist for WLKY.
In the year 2007, Jim was awarded the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal. He is among the few in the state who have qualified, tested as well as passed this rigorous program.
