John Ortberg an American renowned evangelist Christian author, speaker, and former senior pastor of Menlo Church, Menlo Park, California. This is an ECO Presbyterian church with over 4000 members.
John Ortberg Age
Ortberg was born on May 5, 1957, in Rockford, Illinois, the United States.
John Ortberg Education
John enrolled and later earned a degree from Wheaton College and his M.Div. nd Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He later joined University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Between 1985 and 1990, he served as a senior pastor at Simi Valley Community Church.
John Ortberg Career
As of 1990 to 1994 he worked at Horizons Community Church in Claremont, California. He then relocated from California to Illinois to serve as a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois until 2003. John then assumed his current role at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, a Multi-campus church in Northern California.
He as well published several books including the 2008 ECPA Christian Book Award winner When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box. Other books include; the 2002 Christianity Today Book Award winner If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.
Some of his other publications include; The Life You’ve Always Wanted, which has sold more than 500,000 copies as of 2008. On August 13, 2012, John Ortberg’s book Who Is This Man, ranked at number three on the New Release Chart at Amazon.com
On January 21, 2020, his current church, the Menlo Church issued a statement indicating that Ortberg was placed on leave. This was following the revelation that he allowed a church volunteer, to be precise his son John Ortberg III to work and travel with children. What made it odd is the volunteer’s confession of a lifelong sexual attraction to children.
On January 24, 2020, he returned from leave apologizing for his failure, not doing the right thing. He later made a return to the pulpit on March 7, 2020. On July 29, 2020, his Church yet again announced that Ortberg had resigned his position effective August 2, 2020. This is basically from the guilt that he allowed his son John Orberg III to volunteer with children at Menlo church even after the confession of his attraction to the minors.
