Judge Patricia DiMango Biography
Patricia DiMango (Patricia Mafalda DiMango), is best known as one of the judges of the court show ‘Hot Bench‘ on CBS. She is also a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Kings County, New York. DiMango was the first Italian-American woman to be named as justice of the State Supreme Court.
After her graduation from law school, DiMango served 5 1/2 years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. In her time there, Justice DiMango was given the extra responsibility of being cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
She then served as a law clerk in both Kings and Queens Counties to Supreme Court Justices Steven Fisher, Reinaldo Rivera and Luigi Marano. At this time, Judge DiMango offered her assistance as a Small Claims Court Arbitrator.
She became the chairperson on the Board of Directors of the Law and Paralegal Studies Department at New York City Technical College. Patricia also worked as the chairperson on the Assigned Counsel Advisory Committee for the 2nd, 11th and 13th Judicial Districts. Judge DiMango also serves on the Board of Directors for The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn.

DiMango graduated from St. John’s University with a Law degree, she also graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree from the St. John’s University School of Law and later received a Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University. Justice DiMango is additionally a holder of Bachelor’s Degree cum laude in Psychology and Education from Brooklyn College.
At some point, she decided to pursue a career in education and became an Adjunct Associate Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Forensic Psychology at St. John’s University for approximately 10 years.
DiMango has also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York City Technical College. While she was pursuing her master’s degree, DiMango worked as a school teacher for the New York City Public Schools, concentrating on special education of children with emotional and intellectual deficiencies.

In 1995 Patricia was selected by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani as a Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York. Prior to her appointment, she was a school teacher at NYC Public School. In 1998 she served as the Acting justice of the State Supreme Court, 2nd Judicial District. She was later elected as a justice of the Supreme Court of Kings Country after two years retiring in March 2014.
Patricia is mentioned in a New Yorker article regarding Kalief Browder, a 16-year-old who spent over three years in Rikers Island awaiting trial. According to the article, she was the presiding judge who released Browder on his 31st court appearance. DiMango has also been involved with numerous other high-profile cases. The cases include murders and other crimes committed against children, and hate crimes. DiMango has also served as MC for the NY State Broadcasters Association Awards.
