Julian Assange Biography
Julian Assange is an American journalist, computer programmer, and broadcaster who currently serves as editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks, a whistleblowing website. He created this website in 2006. Born in Townsville, Queensland, Assange immediately got on board, creating a project called “Rubber Hose” designed to uniquely conceal confidential information and prevent misuse.
After his education, he attended various schools, including Gloomangar Primary School in New South Wales. He also attended Townsville High School in Queensland.
WikiLeaks attracted international attention in 2010 when it published a series of leaks provided by U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. After losing his fight against extradition to Sweden, he committed a crime and took refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. He was later allowed to remain in Ecuador in August 2012 due to political persecution. Swedish prosecutors later stopped the investigation in 2019. They said their evidence was weak because so much time had passed since the events in question.
Additionally, during the 2016 US campaign, WikiLeaks released secret emails of Democrats showing support for Hillary Clinton against her rivals in the Democratic Party. His asylum was revoked after a conflict with Ecuadorian authorities after April 11, 2019.
More recently, on January 4, 2021, UK District Judge Venessa Baraitser rejected the US request to extradite Julian, saying that this would be “torture” given his medical condition and condition. There is a risk of suicide. He was also barred from paying outstanding charges from the United States on January 6, 2021. Additionally, the UK Supreme Court rejected his appeal in March 2022.
