Laurentino Cortizo Cohen is a Panamanian politician and has been president of Panama since 2019. Cortizo is the leader of the National Assembly and the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development. He also served as a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly between 1994 and 2004 and as the President of the Chamber of Commerce for one year.

Laurentino Cortizo Career
After graduation, Cortizo moved to Washington, DC in 1981 to become Advisor to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS). In November 1986, Laurentino served as interim director of Panama at the Organization of American States. During this period, he was a member of the Finance Committee and the Volunteers Committee.
He also serves as Chairman of the Working Group on the Development of the Countries of the Central American Isthmus and the Representative Council of the Economic and Social Council. Cortizo was a member of the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004 and was described as a representative of the party. He became Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2000 and served until 2001.
He also served as Minister of Agricultural and Livestock Development under President Martín Torrijos, however, he resigned in 2006 due to his objections to the negotiations made in pursuit of the US-Panama Free Trade Agreement.
