Marcus Hunter Career
The Observer is the dusk and dawn news anchor for WREG NewsChannel 3. He was born in Columbus, Mississippi. While still in high school, he started working as a production assistant at a local news station. Before receiving his university degree, he started working as a presenter and played sports.
After graduating from Mississippi State University, he moved to Memphis to pursue his career as a football player and broadcaster. He also developed his passion for journalism. He covered hot topics in Memphis, including the killing of Lorenzen Wright, the Memphis Tigers’ national championship bid, the Grizzlies’ run to the Western Conference Finals and the Memphis City School Board’s cuts.
After eight years in Memphis, Hunter returned home to Mississippi to raise daughter Kayla and welcome son Marcus Jackson Hunter into the world. Jackson’s morning show has won several Emmy awards.
The fight to change the flag of Mississippi and the state’s eventual decision before the U.S. Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade and the 2021 Jackson crisis. She was the morning news anchor at WAPT before moving to WREG and currently serves as the weekend dawn anchor and news anchor. He resigned in May 2022 after more than seven years in office.
