Elbagir began working with CNN back in February 2011 as a reporter at network’s Johannesburg bureau, before relocating to Nairobi. She reported on outbreak of Ebola that attacked West Africa, moving Liberia’s quarantine zones and exploring the devastation the disease has wrought across both urban and rural societies.
She had her first international reporting from Chibok, the northern Nigerian village with over 250 schoolgirls who got kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram. She interviewed two young girls who escaped as they described the ordeal of the capture and the fear they now felt.
