Paul, head of the RMS Titanic’s underwater exploration program, will join Oceangate founder Stockton Rush, British businessman Hamish Harding and Pakistani billionaire Shahazada Dawood aboard the deep-sea submarine Titan. In 1914, he explored the site of the sinking of the Titanic for research.
In June 2023, five people, including Mr. Paul-Henri Narjolet, were reported missing on the Ocean Gate submersible Titan. The submarine, led by Oceangate founder Stockton Rush, disappeared about 635 miles south of St. Johns, Newfoundland.
The Oceangate submarine Titan has gone missing, requiring urgent rescue operations around the world. In a race against time, a search party is sent to search thousands of square miles of ocean. With less than 40 hours of oxygen on board, conditions were tough. Search and rescue operations have become a symbol of human determination and unity in difficult times.
His passion for diving led him to join the French Navy in 1964. During his 22-year tenure, he acquired a wide range of skills as a minesweeper, deep-sea diver and submarine pilot. His outstanding skills and knowledge have led him to work for his IFREMER, a French publicly funded marine research institute. His first dive on the Titanic was in July 1987, about two years after the wreck was confirmed.
Paul served in the Navy for 22 years before he joined IFREMER in 1986 as Director of DESM. During his time at IFREMER, Narjolet oversaw the recovery of approximately 1,000 artifacts from the wreckage of the Titanic.
Among the items seized were personal belongings of travelers such as shoes and binoculars. In addition to collecting artifacts from the sunken ship, IFREMER has created detailed maps of the wreck site. Nargeolet left IFREMER in December 2003 to work as a consultant.
He worked as a consultant in Greenwich, Connecticut for three years. Since then, he has appeared in several Titanic-related documentaries and films. Prior to the disappearance of the submarine Ocean Gate, he served as director of the RMS Underwater Research Program on the Titanic.
