Rachid Madrane Biography

Rachid Madrane is a Belgian politician and journalist of Moroccan origin. He is currently Governor of the Brussels-Capital Region. He holds a degree in Journalism and Communication from the Free xx as a regional council member from 2004 to 2009 and then represented the constituency of Brussels-Hal-Vilvoorde as a member of txhe Federal Parliament from 2010 to 2012. Maderane was elected president of the Brussels regional council the day after the 2019 elections and took office in July.

Rachid Madrane Activities

In 1985, after SOS Racisme launched the anti-racism “Touche pas à mon pote” campaign, Madrane joined the Socialist Party. He studied at the Free University of Brussels from 1987 to 1991, obtaining a diploma in journalism and communications.

In 2000, Madrane became the messenger of Alain Hutchinson, Minister of State for the House of Representatives. In the same year, he was elected as a municipal councilor in Etterbeek and became the leader of the Socialist Party in the municipal council.

Maderane served as Member of Parliament for the Brussels-Capital Region from 2004 to 2009, where he focused on defending the diversity of public affairs and opposition in the Brussels region, as well as discrimination in hiring.

He became a member of the Federal Parliament in 2010, and in 2011 he became Vice-President of the Federation of Socialist Parties in Brussels. Madrane held both posts until December 2012, when he became Secretary of State for Hygiene and Urban Planning in Brussels. Minister of Vocational Training, Labour, Employment, Culture, Sports, International Relations and Transport of the Capital Region and the Council of the French Community. (Kokokov).

Following the regional elections in 2014, he joined the Francophone government of Belgium and was appointed Minister of Youth Aid, Justice, Propaganda, responsible for the Francophone Council in Brussels. Rashid was also responsible for overseeing the government’s role in sports and youth during the 2014-2019 Parliament.

Following regional elections in 2019, Madrane was elected representative of Brussels and was later appointed Governor of the Brussels-Capital Region.
