Ram Nath Kovind is an Indian politician and lawyer who served as the 14th president of India from 2017 to 2022. He is the first President of India to hail from Uttar Pradesh. Kovind is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Before becoming president, he served as the 26th president of Bihar from 2015 to 2017.
He also served as a member of the Bundestag between 1994 and 2006. Before entering politics, he worked as a lawyer for 16 years and practiced before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India until 1993.

Joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1991. Nath served as president of the BJP Dalit Morcha and All India Koli Samaj between 1998 and 2002.
