On August 28, 2006, he joined Jodi Applegate as co-anchor of Good Day New York at the flagship FOX owned affiliate WNYW. When he was on vacation in April 2008, his contract was not renewed to make room for Fox News Channel correspondent Greg Kelly.

Corning previously was assumed to be dating writer Anthony J. Wilkinson, and the pair were also spotted together at the opening night of My Big Gay Italian Wedding at St. Luke’s Theater. The play was about a gay couple and their same-sex marriage, and this very fact only added fuel to the fire.
Corning never commented on the topic and it was not known whether Anthony was his boyfriend or not, they were again seen together after a period. In December 2017, he talked about his reunion with Anthony through a tweet, “attending My Big Gay Italian Christmas at Golden Nugget Atlantic City.”
The next day, he shared a picture on his Facebook account where together with Anthony were posing together with Anthony’s mother, Dee Wilkinson. The pair are seen happy together even though neither Corning nor Anthony has ever disclosed whether they were just good friends or partners.

Ron Corning Injury
On August 13, 2017, WFAA “Daybreak” Corning suffered a fractured left kneecap in a fall in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He shared on his Facebook page “I wiped out on a slippery concrete deck and came down squarely on my left knee.” He was there on a house tour.
Acquaintances called 911 and he was rushed to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe. He was in surgery for three hours and he has a full-length straight-leg cast that he must wear for six weeks.
