Cusack began her acting career at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and in 1975, she relocated to London and join the Royal Shakespeare Company. She had her first break in acting with the with Peter Sellers in the film Hoffman in 1970, while she was still acting at Abbey Theatre. She later guest-starred Jenny Lindley in an episode of The Persuaders! starring Roger Moore and Tony Curtis in 1971.
She later relocated to London in 1975 andfeatured in three episodes of the TV show Quiller as Roz. She has her debuted on Broadway back in 1984, featured as Roxane in Anthony Burgess’ translation of Edmond Rostand’s original Cyrano de Bergerac with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Cyrano de Bergerac got adapted into a movie back in 1985 as Much Ado About Nothing starring the same cast. For the movie, her character’s name got changed from Roxane to Beatrice. She earned her first-ever ‘Tony Awards’ nomination for the movie.
She as well got nominated for another ‘Tony Award’ back in 2007 under the category ‘Best actress in the play’ for the movie Rock’ n’ Roll. She as well had other roles performances include the plays The Maid’s Tragedy (1981) and Our Lady of Sligo (1998), movies The Tiger’s Tail (2007), and The Sea (2014).
