Vahagn Khachaturyan Biography

Vahagn Garniki Khachaturyan is an Armenian leader and the current fifth president of Armenia. He served as mayor of Yerevan from 1992 to 1996 and as head of the high-tech industry from 2021 to 2022. He was a member of the Armenian National Congress Party until he left in 2017. He joined the ANC list and won the 2013 Yerevan city council election and is now an independent. Khachaturian was born in Zion in 1959. He is married and has two children. In addition to his Armenian nationality, he also speaks English and Russian.

He graduated from Yerevan National Economy Institute in 1980 and received the title of economist. He served in the Soviet Army between 1980 and 1982.

After completing his military service, he spent the next ten years establishing a teaching career at the Yerevan Academy; He served as financial investor of “HrazdanMash” (Hrazdan Instrumental Production company) for the first eight years and then as president of the “Mars” factory until 1992.

From 1990 to 1996 Vahagen served as mayor of Yerevan, and from 1992 to 1996 he served as mayor of Yerevan. He served as a representative in the National Assembly of Armenia from 1995 until 1999.

He served as an advisor to the President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan between 1996 and 1998. In 2002, he served as Director of Economy, Economics. Center for Legal and Economic Research. He was appointed Minister of High-Tech Industry in August 2021.
